The Cask of Amontillado audiobook

Cask of Amontillado, The

First published in the November 1846 issue of Godey's Lady's Book, the story is set in 19th century Italy and concerns the deadly revenge taken by the insane narrator on a friend who he claims has insulted him.

Like several of Poe's stories, and in keeping with the 19th century fascination with the subject, the narrative revolves around a person being buried alive.

Author:Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American poet, short story writer, playwright, editor, literary critic, essayist and one of the leaders of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of the macabre and mystery, Poe was one of the early American practitioners of the short story and a progenitor of detective fiction and crime fiction. He is also credited with contributing to the emergent science fiction genre.[1] Poe died at the age of 40.

Narrator:Grover Gardner has recorded over 450 audiobooks and was named one of Audiofile Magazine’s Golden Voices of 1999. He is a member of the Woolly Mammoth Theater Company, Resident Director at Everyman Theater in Baltimore and has received 5 Helen Hayes Award nominations of his work.

Brimstone audiobook

Brimstone

Behind the gates of a fabulous Hampton estate, FBI Special Agent Pendergast discovers the carnage of a gruesome crime—a nightmare of seemingly supernatural origin. The smoldering remains of infamous art critic Jeremy Grove, a melted cross branding his chest, are found in a locked, barricaded attic. The hoofprint singed into the floorboards and the smell of brimstone recall the legendary horrors that befall those who make a pact with the Devil.

Reuniting with police officers Vincent D'Agosta and Laura Hayward, Pendergast combs New York hoping for a simple explanation: a villain who is merely a man. But his search takes him beyond the exclusive clubs and luxury penthouses of Manhattan to a crumbling, legend-shrouded castle in the Italian countryside, where thirty years ago four men conjured something...unspeakable.

Featuring bone-chilling suspense and Preston and Child's trademark meticulous research and vivid detail, BRIMSTONE is the duo's—and Pendergast's—most dangerous and gripping adventure yet.

Blue Ocean Strategy audiobook

Blue Ocean Strategy

“Don’t Compete with Rivals—Make Them Irrelevant!”

Winning by Not Competing! This International Bestseller upends traditional thinking with principles and tools to make the competition irrelevant.

In a book that challenges everything you thought you knew, W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne assert that tomorrow’s leading companies will succeed, not by battling their rivals for market share in the bloody “red ocean” of a shrinking profit pool, but by creating "blue oceans" of untapped new market spaces ripe for growth.

Based on a study of 150 strategic moves, spanning more than a hundred years and thirty industries they provide a systematic approach that every company can use to render rivals obsolete and unleash new demand:
· Reconstruct market boundaries
· Focus on the big picture
· Reach beyond existing demand
· Get the strategic sequence right
· Overcome organizational hurdles
· Build execution into strategy

“I recommend Blue Ocean Strategy to any executive in the private or public sector. It shows how to break from the status quo, create a winning future strategy, and execute this fast at low cost. As much a practical guide as an eye-opener.”

--William J. Bratton, Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department,

Former Police Commissioner of the City of New York

Angels Flight audio book

Angels Flight

An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf.

But the case is so explosive—and the dead man's enemies inside the L.A.P.D. are so numerous—that it falls to Harry to solve it.

Now the streets are superheating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive.

The question is, did any have the guts?

Michael Connelly, the New York Times bestselling author of Blood Work, sets his novels of suspense against a world divided by race, politics, money, and the media. His new novel is a harrowing journey into a high-profile murder case—and darkness...Angels Flight

A Disorder Peculiar to the Country - audiobook

Disorder Peculiar to the Country, A

Joyce and Marshall Harriman are in the midst of a contentious divorce, but still sharing a cramped, overmortgaged Brooklyn apartment with their two children.

On the morning of September 11, Joyce departs for Newark to catch a flight to San Francisco, and Marshall, after dropping the kids at daycare, heads for his office in the World Trade Center.

She misses her flight and he's late for work, but on that grim day, in the devastated city, among millions seized by fear and grief, each thinks the other is dead, and each is secretly, shamefully, gloriously happy. As their bitter divorce is further complicated by anthrax scares, suicide bombs, foreign wars, and the stock market collapse, they suffer, in ways unexpectedly personal and increasingly ludicrous, the many strange ravages of our time.

In this astonishing black comedy, Kalfus suggests how our nation's public calamities have encroached upon our most private illusions.

Ken Kalfus is the author of a novel, The Commissariat of Enlightenment, and the short story collections, Thirst, which won the Salon Book Award, and Pu-239 and Other Russian Fantasies which was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award. A Disorder Peculiar to the Country was a National Book Award finalist for 2006.

Reviews:
"Kalfus is an endlessly ingenious writer….Features some of the best fiction writing yet about September 11….A brilliant comedy of manners…about the way a conflict takes on a logic and momentum of its own."—Salon.com

"My inner idealist hopes Kalfus' novel joins the ranks of Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 on the required reading lists."—Philadelphia Magazine

"Kalfus' new novel [is] like a fever dream of recent events…Through the interbleeding of public and private story lines and his lampooning approach, Kalfus [is] freeing the way we think about September 11….If hyperbole can be weaponized anywhere in literature, it is here."—Los Angeles Times Book Review Read by James Boles, Direction, Mastering and Original Music by Peter Pantelis.
